3d Fantasy Digital Art

This page compliments my new blog.  It is designed to show you how to delve into the fascinating world of digital art.

Part one - Starting out!

  1. Should I try it?
  2. How to get started
  3. What will it cost?
  4. What do I need?

1.  Should I try it?

Yes!  Definitely.  What have you got to loose?

2. How to get started

The easiest and cheapest way to begin is to join DAZ3d - Get 3D Models, 3D Content, and 3D Software at DAZ3D!

Daz3d software is FREE

Just go to Daz from the links above and download the software.  The software gives you all you need to get started.

3.  What will it cost?

Daz3d software is FREE.  So the initial set up cost is nothing. This is a great opportunity to take a look and decide if it is for you.  Be warned however that like anything new it does take time to develop a new skill (take a look at my blogs about the trials of beginning this fantastic medium!  If you are having difficulty you are not alone!

4. What do I need?

What you need depends on where you want to go with you art.  Start with Daz3d as this is the most cost effective way to start out, then progress from there.  Daz3d is for people who want to do models.  It does have landscaping extensions.

Bryce

If you want to do just landscapes you will need Bryce

It is a great landscape package and not too expensive for setting out.

Next comes poser - another models software option

Carrara

Carrara does both models and landscapes.  It is the most expensive option, yet if you talk to the 3D community it is considered one of the best options.

Part 2 - Where to go From here

I found it a great advantage to belong to the Daz3d Platinum club.  To start with I wasn't certain as it meant paying for something I still wasn't sure I would use!  However,  if you are going to get Bryce or one of the other software packs, it pays for itself outright.  The models are also so much cheaper that you wold soon save on them too.

Then

Once you are a member there's lots of perks!   There's great competitions each month and galleries.

Huge Discounts for Platinum Members

You get a $5 discount which means if you buy $5 of goods or more you are paying very little for membership.

The models are so much cheaper for Platinum Members.

Check out the FREEBIES!

Keep on looking there's often 100% off items which means you can build up your models, clothes etc.  Often Aiko, Micheal and Victoria are FREE, these means you can concentrate on building up their clothing and props.

Of course all this assumes you have a budget!  If you don't just go for it - a word of warning though buy a bit at a time its a lot to download!

More FREEbies!

Sometimes they bundle things for platinum members so check your downloads there might be gifts in there.

Get 3D Models, 3D Content, and 3D Software at DAZ3D!

Whats next

Buy your bits - get a cup of tea or coffee depending on where in the world you are and prepare to download (you can order a CD instead).  Its quite quick, but everything is such a reasonable price you end up with lots to download.

Remember though you don't have to buy anything to start, when I joined I got model basics for free.

A word of warning!  Its addictive and there's always that one more model, texture or outfit missing.

Oh B*g**r I just want this
